The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
